When Hinekura gets her first menstrual bleed she is taken by the women of her family into a sacred space to aid her transition. She struggles against impending responsibility and bees from the ritual intending to resume her childhood games with her best friend. But her friend, Tama bids her return. Warrior, Te Haeata meet her along the path and mentors Hinekura. During a fight with a stranger, Hinekura finally puts aside her childhood and embraces her future as protector of her people.
